Retired Firefighters & Fire Service Personnel

www.ex-

Since retiring I have realised that I was actually born to retire. The bit before was enjoyable and I met lots of great people and friends along the way but I seem to thrive on retirement.
Before going on, Phyllis and I would like to wish the very best to all those who still remember us. It is nice to occasionally bump into someone and exchange a few words.
We keep fairly active and do a lot of individual travelling around different parts of the world. There are still one or two corners that we would like to see but it may have to be by the normal tourist and cruise routes in the future as the legs and brain start to give out.
Phyllis is still quite involved with church activities and one or two things.
I still do a bit of cycling and swimming but not quite as much as I would like. Did a bit of cycling for a day in Alaska in beautiful sunshine and then Canada in a blizzard of sleet and rain.
I enjoy gardening, particularly, when I am harvesting my own veggies. I manage to play golf a couple or three times a week.
I am still playing with computers and all that stuff.
I don’t miss the Fire Brigade but I do miss the people who have served with me over
the years and I thoroughly enjoy meeting them when I can. However I am not really
one for re-
Roger & Mary Outten
I'm 63 years young, I joined the RCN (Royal Canadian Navy) in 1962 at the age of 17. Met my wife Mary while in the navy and we were married in 1964. I served as an electrician in the navy. I got an honorable discharge in 1965.
1966 I joined the Calgary Fire Dept. I started as probationary firefighter, then moved up to driver, hydrant man, senior man and was promoted to Lieutenant in 1982. I was then promoted to Captain in 1989. I served as Crew Chief at the Calgary International Airport from 1989 to 1994, the year I retired.
My wife Mary and I have cooked chili in competitions throughout North America, competing at the World Championships twice. We put on the 1st.ICS sanctioned chili cookoff in England in 1986, at the Comedian Pub in Rotherham, South Yorkshire.
My wife was born in England and she still has a sister that lives there, so we visit often and enjoy the country. We now live in central Alberta at Gull Lake approximately 90Km. northwest of Red Deer. We play golf and do some fishing and enjoy traveling and meeting new people. We have 2 children, 5 grand children and 2 great grand kids.
Thats about it, hope to hear from other members.
